Cavan Cornelius

Cavan's students learn early that while instruments and techniques vary, the foundational spirit of music stays the same - and that understanding is what makes them real musicians.Whether absorbing his expertise on the viola and violin, or getting a strong sense of the fundamentals on piano or guitar, students benefit from a slow steady pace built on a consistent series of little wins. By adding popular songs, fun activities and musical games to lessons, Cavan keeps lessons engaging. Cavan’s goal is to help his students to connect musically, learn proper technique for their instruments, gain the ability to play in different styles of music and most importantly to have fun while playing. A third-year UVic music and computer science student, Cavan plays viola in symphonic and chamber settings and double bass in the jazz band - experience that shows up in his ability to adapt to whatever style a student brings to the lesson.
