Nicholas’s students thrive with structure and consistency, they like things to be predictable and make incremental improvements with each lesson. Whether working from a book or dissecting their favorite songs, they know what each lesson will look like and how to be successful within this routine. Nicholas builds his lesson plans based on his own past success as an award-winning solo and ensemble performer. When a student knows what to expect and how to pile up a series of small wins lesson over lesson, they propel forward based on the same momentum that Nicholas has built into his own relationship with music.

Parents of routine-oriented students will be happy to learn that Nicholas also likes to push his students outside their comfort zones in a safe and predictable way to keep growing as musicians and people. He’s also keen to break down any student’s interest into bite-sized musical pieces fine tuned to their skill level in a way that keeps their engagement and momentum going. Structure and Fun aren’t mutually exclusive though, Nicholas has supplemented his classical accomplishments with high energy performances across B.C. in his V-Pop band (Vietnamese Pop) and encourages his students to find that same passion within themselves.
