Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
This is the song that I have taught as the first ever song to over 300 students in my years. I like to take the intro and change the key to E to keep it nice and simple. That is the first half written above.
It’s important with beginners to have little melodies that are recognizable, easy to learn, easy to memorize and build coordination. Down the road I transpose the song back to it’s original key (see the second half of the tab above) and get the students to play along with the recording if they are able to.
