Sarah Terlesky

Sarah has recently graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Jazz Studies as a Vocal Major. Throughout her degree she has studied multiple pedagogical methods as well as taking teaching notes from her fantastic private lessons professors over the years. Sarah has known she wanted to be a music teacher since she was 13 years old and has seized every opportunity throughout her musical schooling to insert herself into a leadership role in hopes of preparing to be a music educator. She has been playing both Jazz and Contemporary voice gigs around Vancouver island for about three years as well as volunteering as a pianist, vocalist and electric bassist on her church's worship team. Additionally, She successfully completed up to grade 8 conservatory piano as well as participated in a myriad of musical ensembles such as Vocal Jazz, Concert Choir, Concert Band, Big Band and Musical Theatre. Sarah believes that musical enjoyment is equally, if not more important than learning the notes on the page. Her Philosophy as a music teacher is to encourage students to enjoy playing music, and create a balanced environment where they have space to be creative while gaining useful knowledge they can take with them in their future endeavours.
